Relationship to Practice Documents

When you become a client of True2U Counseling, you may sign additional documents including but not limited to: Informed Consent for Treatment, Practice Policies Agreement, HIPAA Authorization, and other intake forms. In the event of any conflict between these Terms of Service and your signed practice documents, the terms of your signed documents shall govern.

Services Provided

Our counselling services include:

  • Individual therapy for adults
  • Couples counselling and relationship therapy
  • Family therapy and family systems work
  • Group therapy sessions
  • Crisis assessment and safety planning
  • Therapeutic support and mental health counselling

These services are provided by qualified mental health professionals for therapeutic purposes.

Important Medical Disclaimer: Our therapists provide mental health counselling and psychotherapy services. We are not medical doctors and do not:

User Responsibilities

You agree to:

  • Disclose relevant medical conditions that may impact treatment
  • Inform us if you are working with other mental health providers
  • Attend sessions as scheduled or provide adequate notice for cancellations
  • Participate actively in the therapeutic process
  • Consult with your physician regarding any medical concerns or medication changes
  • Use the services in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Maintain the confidentiality of your account credentials
  • Not use our services for any unlawful or unauthorized purpose
  • Not interfere with or disrupt the operation of our website or services

Account Registration

When creating an account or booking our services, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Provide accurate, current, and complete information
  • Maintain and promptly update your account information
  • Keep your login credentials secure and confidential
  • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized use of your account

You are responsible for all activities that occur under your account.

Payment and Refunds

Payment Terms

Payment is required at the time of booking. We accept various payment methods as indicated on our website. All fees are stated in the currency displayed at checkout.

Cancellation Policy

  • 24+ hours notice: Cancellations made at least 24 hours before the scheduled appointment may be eligible for a full refund or rescheduling
  • Less than 24 hours: Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance are non-refundable
  • No-shows: Missed appointments without prior notice are non-refundable

Late Arrival Policy

Sessions end at the scheduled time regardless of late arrival. Therapists cannot extend sessions into the next client's scheduled time.

Insurance/EAP

If using insurance or Employee Assistance Program (EAP) benefits, cancellation fees may not be covered and will be your responsibility.

Refund Processing

Approved refunds will be processed within 5-10 business days to the original payment method. We reserve the right to refuse refunds for services already rendered or in cases of policy violations.

Intellectual Property

All content on this website, including text, graphics, logos, images, therapeutic materials, worksheets, psychoeducational resources, treatment plans, and software, is the property of True2U Counseling or its content suppliers and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may not:

  • Reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our express written permission
  • Use our content for commercial purposes without authorization
  • Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices
  • Reverse engineer or attempt to extract source code from our website

Personal treatment plans and therapeutic materials provided to you may be used for your personal, non-commercial use only.

Therapeutic Relationship and Professional Boundaries

The therapist-client relationship is professional and therapeutic in nature. To maintain the integrity and effectiveness of therapy:

Professional Boundaries

  • The therapeutic relationship exists only within scheduled session times and professional contexts
  • Therapists maintain professional boundaries and cannot engage in dual relationships
  • Personal, business, or social relationships outside of therapy are prohibited
  • Therapists cannot provide services to friends, family members, or individuals with whom they have other relationships

Scope of Therapeutic Relationship

  • Our therapists provide counselling and psychotherapy within their scope of practice and competency
  • We do not provide emergency services or 24/7 crisis intervention
  • Between-session contact should be limited to scheduling and brief clarifications
  • Crisis situations should be directed to appropriate emergency services (911, crisis hotlines)

Therapist Qualifications

All therapists practicing with True2U Counseling:

  • Hold appropriate professional credentials and licenses for mental health practice
  • Maintain continuing education requirements
  • Adhere to professional codes of ethics from relevant regulatory bodies
  • Practice within their scope of competency

Treatment Approaches

Therapists use evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and other modalities tailored to your individual needs. Treatment is collaborative and personalized.

Limitations of Therapy

  • Therapy outcomes cannot be guaranteed
  • Progress varies based on individual circumstances, engagement, and other factors
  • Some individuals may not experience improvement or may experience increased distress
  • Therapy may involve discussing difficult topics that temporarily increase discomfort
  • You have the right to discontinue therapy at any time

Consultation and Supervision

Therapists may consult with supervisors or colleagues about clinical cases on a confidential, de-identified basis to ensure quality care. This is standard professional practice and helps ensure you receive the best possible treatment.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, True2U Counseling shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses resulting from:

  • Your use or inability to use our services
  • Any unauthorized access to or use of our servers and/or any personal information stored therein
  • Any interruption or cessation of transmission to or from our services
  • Any bugs, viruses, or other harmful code that may be transmitted through our services
  • Any errors or omissions in any content or for any loss or damage incurred as a result of your use of any content

Additional Limitations Specific to Counselling Services

  • Self-harm, suicide attempts, or harm to others despite receiving services
  • Decisions or actions you take based on insights gained in therapy
  • Relationship outcomes (e.g., divorce, separation) resulting from couples/family therapy
  • Medication side effects or interactions (as we do not prescribe medication)
  • Outcomes related to legal proceedings (custody disputes, litigation, etc.)

Our total liability to you for all claims arising from or related to these terms or our services shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim.

Disclaimer of Warranties

Our services are provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:

  • Warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
  • Warranties that our services will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
  • Warranties regarding the accuracy or completeness of content
  • Warranties that defects will be corrected

Additional Disclaimers for Mental Health Services

  • We do not guarantee specific therapeutic outcomes or symptom resolution
  • Therapy effectiveness depends on multiple factors including client engagement, external circumstances, and biological factors
  • Some mental health conditions may require medical intervention beyond our scope
  • We cannot guarantee prevention of crisis situations or self-harm

No advice or information obtained from us or through our services shall create any warranty not expressly stated in these terms.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless True2U Counseling, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses, including reasonable attorneys' fees, arising out of or in any way connected with your access to or use of our services, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any rights of another person or entity.

Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to modify these terms at any time. We will notify users of any material changes by posting the new terms on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of our services after such modifications constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms. We encourage you to review these terms periodically.

Termination

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your access to our services immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including:

  • Providing false or misleading information
  • Engaging in fraudulent or illegal activities
  • Violation of applicable laws or regulations
  • Abusive or inappropriate behavior toward our staff

Termination of Therapeutic Services

Therapy may be terminated by either the client or therapist:

Client-Initiated Termination

  • You have the right to end therapy at any time
  • We encourage discussion of termination to ensure proper closure
  • We can provide referrals to other providers if needed

Therapist-Initiated Termination

Therapists may terminate services in the following circumstances:

  • You are not benefiting from services or require a higher level of care
  • You have threatened or harassed the therapist
  • You have not paid for services despite reasonable attempts to collect payment
  • There is a conflict of interest or dual relationship concern
  • Treatment goals have been achieved and there is mutual agreement to end services

In cases of therapist-initiated termination, we will provide appropriate notice and referrals to alternative providers when clinically appropriate.

Abandonment Prevention

Therapists will not abandon clients in crisis. If termination is necessary during an active crisis, appropriate safety planning and referrals will be provided.

Court Involvement and Legal Proceedings

Therapist as Witness

  • Our therapists prefer not to be involved in legal proceedings (custody disputes, litigation, etc.)
  • If subpoenaed, therapists will comply with legal requirements
  • Court preparation time and testimony will be billed at the therapist's forensic rate

Records Requests

  • Legal requests for records must be accompanied by appropriate releases or court orders
  • We may charge fees for record preparation and copying as permitted by law
  • We will assert privilege protections where applicable

Custody Evaluations

We do not conduct custody evaluations. Our role is therapeutic, not forensic. Involvement in custody disputes may compromise the therapeutic relationship.

Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which our company is registered, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

Dispute Resolution

In the event of any dispute arising from these terms or our services:

  • You agree to first attempt to resolve the dispute informally by contacting us
  • If informal resolution is unsuccessful, disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration
  • You waive your right to participate in class action lawsuits or class-wide arbitration

Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that these terms shall otherwise remain in full force and effect and enforceable.

Entire Agreement

These Terms of Service, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and True2U Counseling regarding our services and supersede all prior agreements and understandings, whether written or oral, regarding such subject matter.

Professional Ethics and Complaints

All True2U Counseling therapists adhere to ethical standards established by relevant professional bodies.

  • First, we encourage you to discuss concerns directly with your therapist

  • You have the right to file a complaint with the appropriate regulatory body governing your therapist's profession

Ethical Violations

Serious concerns about ethical violations should be reported to the appropriate regulatory authority. We take all ethics concerns seriously and will cooperate with investigations.
